Lucy Recognized by Tourette Association of America
When I was 14 years old, I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder which involves involuntary sounds and movements called tics.
Because Tourette is often misrepresented through the media, I decided to get involved in spreading awareness about what it really is.
On March 10th 2016, I became a Texas Youth Ambassador for the Tourette Association of America. On my first day as an ambassador, I met with staffers of Senator Ted Cruz, Senator John Cornyn and Congressman John Carter, to promote legislative action that would support funding for research and programs that would educate teachers and doctors about Tourette.
My duties as a Youth Ambassador are to give presentations about TS, interview with local media and help raise funds to support research for Tourette Syndrome.
How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?
Because of the flexibility of homeschooling, I am able to have time to fulfill my duties as a Tourette Youth Ambassador.
What are your interests?
I love reading, working out, and watching musicals.
What are you inspired to do with your life?
I want to be a Neurologist and spread more awareness for Tourette Syndrome!
What are your favorite subjects and why?
I love science, because it explains why things happen.
