Elizabeth Places 2nd in Nationwide Patriotic Poem Challenge

In October of 2015 I entered a nationwide Patriotic Poem Challenge. I wrote a poem titled “The Old North Hero” The challenge was judged on creativity and talent.

A month after I entered the contest I got this email that said “Congatulations from Rush Revere and the Crew”.

I opened the email and nearly passed out— I had won Second Place!!!

The prize was an iPad and a Writer’s Gift Bag, a poster, and a certificate…. I was SO EXCITED!!!! I couldn’t believe it!!!

Who recognized the achievement?

The Adventures of Rush Revere website, based on the Rush Revere time-travel series by Rush Limbaugh, who judged the contest.

How did homeschooling help you achieve your goal?

I go to a once-a-week homeschool program, called Greeley Options. I’ve taken a lot of creative writing classes there, and one of them had a chunk of the year focusing on poetry.

Plus, I’ve been taking English every year, and I’ve begun Composition recently. I also write 4 book reports a year, which was extremely helpful.

What are your interests?

I like to write short stories and I’m going to write a novel soon. I also like to cook pretty much anything, make earrings, watch movies, hang out with my lil’ sis, and my friends, and play outside.

What are you inspired to do with your life?

I want to be an author and a homeschool mom.

What are your favorite subjects and why?

I like Composition and English, because they help me prepare for my future goal as an author.
