Growing in Faith, Family, and Freedom Through Homeschooling

Summary

Seton’s accredited Catholic curriculum, family support, and vibrant community give us the structure we need and room for the flexibility we love.

What we love most about homeschooling is the gift of time — time to watch our children learn, grow, and discover who God is calling them to be. We haven’t missed a moment of their lives, and that is a blessing we will always treasure.

Our homeschooling journey began when our eldest, Yssa, was just a year old. As we searched for the ideal school, God opened our eyes to homeschooling. The more we learned, the more we sensed the Holy Spirit leading us to Seton. We were drawn to Seton’s curriculum, which is deeply rooted in Catholic doctrine and helps us pass on the Faith with confidence.

The Greatest Gift

The greatest gift of homeschooling is that it allows our children to grow into the unique individuals God created them to be. Their lessons can follow their strengths and interests while giving extra support where needed. They learn at their own pace, building confidence and independence along the way.

Because our children learn at home, our family grows closer every day. The home becomes a safe, joyful environment where they are free to ask big questions, dive deeply into subjects, and discover their purpose. This builds responsibility, critical thinking, and creativity — skills they will carry through life.

Smart Minds, Strong Souls

We wanted an approach that forms not just smart minds, but strong souls. Seton’s accredited Catholic curriculum, family support, and vibrant community give us the structure we need while allowing room for the flexibility we love. Our children explore a wide selection of books, especially stories of Jesus, Our Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, and the saints — their greatest role models.

Every school day begins with prayer, Scripture, and reflection. That sets the tone: learning is a holy adventure.

A Day in Our Homeschool

We keep a peaceful rhythm to our days. After praying the Rosary, we go to bed around 8–9 p.m. We wake at the same time the next morning, eat breakfast, pray, and begin lessons.

If there are no music classes that day, each child practices an instrument of their choice.

  • Yssa rotates among piano, guitar, and violin.
  • Bea plays piano or violin.
  • Mika plays piano, violin, or cello.
  • John enjoys the recorder, drums, or violin.

Monday to Friday, academics come first, then talents and interests. Each afternoon, we attend Holy Mass at St. Rita de Cascia Parish. On Thursdays and Fridays, Daddy Michael serves as a Lay Minister while Mommy Anna serves as a Lector and Commentator.

Saturday is family day — community events, sports, recreation, and serving where God calls. Every third Saturday, we serve as lay preachers in Pre-Cana, supporting couples preparing for marriage. Sundays are for Holy Mass and our Catholic Prayer Meeting.

St. Paul reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. To care for this gift, we keep moving! Our children enjoy fencing, tennis, gymnastics, and basketball. Daily exercise builds not only strength, but discipline and resilience.

Trials and Triumphs in Faith

Saying “yes” fully to homeschooling was not easy. We faced doubts and challenges — but through God’s grace, joy always returned.

Our greatest trial came in 2017, when Mommy Anna was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It was a fast-growing cancer and a frightening time. But through prayer, sacraments, and complete trust in God, she was fully healed without chemotherapy or radiation. We praise God for the gift of her restored health and the strength of soul that came through that suffering.

Living the Catholic Faith Daily

Our faith is not a subject — it is our life. The Holy Eucharist, Reconciliation, and the Anointing of the Sick have been our comfort and strength. Scripture reminds us daily that God’s promises never fail. Jesus is our model, our center, and our hope.

We breathe the Gospel into our days — reading, reflecting, and trying again when we fall short.

Our Advice to Other Families

As a Marian-consecrated family, we encourage practicing the Ignatian Examen each day. Recognize faults, seek forgiveness quickly, and begin again with joy. Small acts of kindness offer God the first fruits of our love. Let Jesus lead. Follow Him faithfully.

Homeschooling with Seton has helped our children grow in virtue, confidence, and purpose. We thank God for guiding us to this path—and we pray that all families considering homeschooling will listen closely to the Holy Spirit and trust that God will provide.
