This Is Why We Homeschool – The Dickson Family

Summary

We chose Seton for faith, morals, work ethic, confidence, convictions, and its competitive education.

What do you love most about homeschooling?

Our son has had a life through High School that best served his growth and development as a Christian young man, without unnecessary stress.

What inspired you to begin homeschooling?

We are retired and in our 60s. We were blessed to send all three of our children to a Catholic grade school. Our two oldest ended up going to a public High School. This was the biggest reason we wanted to homeschool Adler 16 years later. A parent learns that it is okay if the Play-Doh colors get mixed together, and so much that seemed so important really just is not. Our son’s faith and virtues are our priority. It also does not hurt to be able to travel and adjust our time with his subjects.

What have you found to be the greatest benefit of homeschooling?

Time. Our child is spending his time learning. He is able to actually learn in his subjects and learn in areas of interest.

It would be a little hard to rearrange his schoolwork when a storm is coming through, and he wants to study the models while in a classroom. Time together as a family.

We are retired, and we actually have time to spend with our son. Thank God he is here to do this. Time is better spent not stressing but prioritizing and accomplishing.

How has homeschooling allowed your child to develop their potential?

His education is focused on his God-given talents.

Why did you choose Seton Home Study School?

I worked in a Catholic grade school as Student Support Staff. There were times when I had to review the teacher’s lesson plans and follow the curriculum as a sub. I also saw the benefits when the curriculum and our faith ran parallel.

Seton Home Study School runs parallel to our faith and our family’s conservative values. I also recognize that our son was used to the expectations of the curriculum.

I knew that his teachers had him prepared for a curriculum that was challenging, and my husband and I didn’t just want him to go to school; we wanted him to grow in his knowledge, faith, morals, work ethic, convictions, and confidence with a competitive education.

What do you love most about Seton Home Study School?

I think I love when we are going through a subject like U.S. Government, Theology and Literature, and Seton underscores what we have pressed upon our son as an important piece of knowledge or faith.
